How a piece gets here

Every piece here was found in the back corner of an antique store, brought home, and restored by hand until it was ready to be lived with again.

Found

Estate sales, antique malls, dusty back rooms. The good ones hide: solid wood, honest joinery, a story worth keeping.

What we look for

  • Solid wood over veneer-on-particleboard
  • Joinery that can be saved: dovetails, mortise and tenon, dowels
  • Hardware that's original, or worth replacing in period
  • Bones good enough to justify the work

Restored

Repairs first, then the finish. Stripped, sanded, stained or painted, waxed. Hardware polished, or replaced with period-correct pieces.

On the bench

  • Loose joints taken apart, cleaned and re-glued
  • Drawers and runners rebuilt so they glide
  • Old finish stripped or revived, depending on what it deserves
  • Stain, paint or oil, then wax, all by hand
  • Hardware cleaned and polished, or replaced in period

Rehomed

Photographed, listed, and sent to its next home, ready for another few decades of breakfasts, letters and bedtime stories.

Out the door

  • Photographed in daylight, flaws included
  • Listed with its measurements and what we did
  • Picked up, or delivered and set where you want it
