The story

This one we left alone, mostly. The blue-grey milk paint is original, worn exactly where hands and knees have touched it for a century and a half, and repainting it would have erased that.

It still smells faintly of cedar inside.

What we did

  1. Cleaned, not stripped
  2. Loose paint consolidated so it won't flake further
  3. Iron strap hinges freed and oiled
  4. One bracket foot re-attached

Honest notes

Paint loss on the lid edges and front corners, original and left as is. Old nail holes inside the lid where a label once hung.
